Wanted: LPI Trainers of Trainers for the FOSS Certification pillar of the ict@innovation project

ict@innovation's first regional training of trainers course on Linux system administration has taken off in Nairobi. The training which started on Monday, 1st November, brings together about 20 participants from across the East African region, that is Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Ethiopia.

Location

The first LPIC-1 exam will be conducted on the 13th of December 2010 in Nairobi. This exam will be hosted by the Strathmore University but it will be a public exam. Anyone who is interested to sit for the same is welcome to do so even though they may not be participating in our trainings. This will be a proctored and paper-based exam and will be on a special discounted rate of $ 95 per exam. There are two exams in LPIC-1, Exam 101 and Exam 102.

All over Africa information and communication technologies (ICT) are gaining increasing importance and businesses realize the need for a secure and efficient ICT infrastructure. Although many businesses still rely on proprietary software solutions, the demand for Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) solutions and support thereof is constantly on the rise. As FOSS solutions are becoming more mature and often provide the same or better functionality as their proprietary counterparts, albeit being free of licensing costs, these solutions are very attractive for the African market.

Overview of African FOSS Business Models Training Contents

The ict@innovation Advanced African FOSS Business course is modular, hands on, and based on real-life FOSS business problems, issues and scenarios in African IT-SME. You as participants will be able to engage in practical exercises such as designing a business plan for a sample project and designing, revising and localizing training materials.
