Looking around us in Awareness

As we come to the close of yet another
active year in ict@innovation,
its time to take stock again. This is the that time we must look back
and take stock. Its the time to look at our successes and failures,
at the lost opportunities and the challenges that we surmounted. Yet
we must also take time to understand what is happening around us, so
that we can encourage ourselves and move forward into the future
without any fear.

Its been a momentous year for the FOSS
community in Africa.

With the 3rd LPI ToT workshop coming to an end, now looking forward.

We just got back home after a great two weeks in Dar es Salaam. This was the biggest class with about 27 candidates sitting for the Exams 101 and 102. There is a great interest in FOSS from TZ, extending all the way to Zanzibar. I wish I had time to visit the University of Zanzibar.

3rd Linux Admin Training of Trainers workshop kicks off in Dar es Salaam

The 3rd Linux Admin Training of trainers workshop kicked off at the National Institute of Training (NIT) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The weather is splendid, slightly cloudy and the humidity is acceptable. This bustling port city on the shores of the Indian Ocean is the commercial capital of Tanzania, with the Government sitting at Dodoma in central Tanzania.

Gracing the opening session was Anne Breuer, the country coordinator at the GIZ East Africa office in Dar es Salaam.

The innovation continues - stopping spam while promoting the MDGs

Last Saturday I was able to make time to make a small presentation at the iHub in Nairobi, just in time for me to travel to Addis Ababa that evening where am now attending CODIST II. This was during the Ubuntu 11.04 launch party, which was sponsored by among others the Linux Professional Institute (East Africa).

The best Linux training ever

“Quite simply, the best Linux training ever.”

What defines a fantastic course?

When you learn something useful. When you make connections with fellow students. When the material inspires ideas. When you argue for hours about cron.

What is cron? Cron allows you to schedule tasks and scripts in a Linux system. You can decide when and who can and cannot run cron. Linux allows you to run any system task through the cron system.

Kenyan University to offer Linux Training

This story was done 6 year ago. It is good food for thought about how a private company/individual can partner with a University or learning institution - private or public, to offer Linux training and certification in a mutually profitable manner.
