Linux Training, the Kampala Experience!

Happy New Year to all of you.

Its been a very hot entry into 2012, from Kampala, and the heat could not have been multiplied by the excitement that comes with knowing Africa's premier FOSS gathering - IDLELO - is round the corner.
Its a great time, as my last experience ushered me into the world of Linux and FOSS on the continent, paving the way for what has now become my life and bread - Linux Systems Administration, Training, and Advocacy.

LPIC National Training in Kampala - Uganda

Greetings to the Certification Community - from Kampala, Uganda.

Africa is famous for its wildlife, and for a typical African child, its not rare when that wildlife extends as close to home as possible. So when i was growing up, it was not uncommon for my dear mother to wake us to the rare and scary sight of a snake skin-shedding session. The kind of sight that sends chills down your spine.

As a child, i kept wondering, why do these slithery serpents have to shed skin? Was it painful? Was it challenging? Alas, for an animal without limbs, how was it even possible?

Steven Kaweesa is a very soft spoken man, and his co-director does not live in the country. Steven runs School of Training and Management (STAM) as a Technical branch of a bigger Social Development Institute established at Nsamizi, in a remote South western part of Uganda. STAM rode the high winds when it partnered with England's NCC to issue international certifications, but over time, the steam has run low.

FOSS and Health Sciences??

When i said to the interview panel, that my mistake to applied for the wrong position, was in part, because i had not seen the job advert physically, i hoped, beyond hope - that i had not dug my own grave.
Day 2, and i am getting into the nitty gritty of what i believe to be East Africa's first Health Sciences University whose IT Infrastructure is 100% (well, almost) FOSS.
